Experience Summary
Not only do I have a willingness to go beyond the normal classroom experience, I challenge myself everyday to strive for the best. By the time I was in seventh grade, I knew I wanted to enter a Dual Enrollment program. I wouldn’t let any obstacle stop me from my desired course. When I attended Robert Morgan, I always felt like I was missing something. I felt like there was so much more that I could accomplish and nothing was standing in my way. I knew what my next goal was; I jumped on board to attend School for Advanced Studies. I love being challenged. I’m intrigued to see how much I could learn, to what extent of your capabilities. Furthermore, I’m currently a full-time Miami Dade Student while taking all Advanced Placement courses such as AP Euro History, AP Calculus, etc. In the past years, I have spent my free time doing service learning at the Miami Dade College Writing Cente working with students and proof reading thier assignments. At the Writing Center, I learned different techniques that help get students motivated about writing. For example, at the Writing Center, we hosted “Writers Blocs” to encourage students to get out their own unique rhetoric and show off their talent. Also, I learned a lot about how to interact with students at different levels and help them understand concepts easily. With professors willing to guide me, I was able to observe the way they taught the students, what books they used, and tips helped them best.
Teaching Style
I believe the classroom should be a creative, encouraging, and open environment for all children to feel like they’re at “home away from home.” I want to create an atmosphere of self expression, exploration, and diversity. In my opinion, in each classroom, a variety of fun and exciting techniques should be used to start children’s creative energy flowing. For example, I think that there are many learning possibilities alive in the classroom such as team-work, organization, crafting, language, and more. Some children are going through difficult situations in school, at home, and within themselves. I want each child to feel comfortable and safe, knowing they’re really being heard and assist parents with being better able to learn how to effectively react to their children’s behavior by explaining to them how they feel and inculcating their children with values, principles and by teaching them important life lessons. Children should be treated as individuals and teachers should take the time to converse with them, speaks to them on their level, as opposed to talk down.
