Experience Summary
I have always had a passion for teaching and, as such, enrolled in a three-year teacher education college in Jamaica where I earned an honorary diploma in the teaching of secondary English. Upon graduation from college I was employed by my alma mater where I taught students ranging between the ages of 12-18. I remained in this job until December 2008, when I resigned in order to migrate to the US.
In addition to my formal teaching experience I also have extensive experience in tutoring. This, as not only have I been able to tutor friends and family members, but I have also done tutoring as a part time job, as well as in a volunteering capacity.
I really do enjoy seeing people succeed and, as such, I know that I would do excellently in this capacity.
Teaching Style
One of the most distinctive attributes of my teaching style is the fact that I believe in discovery learning. I firmly believe that my job is to help the student discover. As such, I avoid 'telling'. Instead, I use modelling and focused activities to help students achieve their goals. After all, if the student understands why he does what he does then he is not likely to forget it and will be ablt to transfer that knowledge to other situations. That, to me, is true learning.
