Experience Summary
Although I have my Biology Degree, my teaching experience in actually in Math. Loyola University required Math classes all the way through Calculus and I enjoyed that end of it so much that I started tutoring at McHenry County College Crystal Lake, IL. This worked into a math teaching position there. After moving to Utah, I continued to teach Math at Utah Valley State College, Wasatch Campus. I believe I have a great Pre-Algebra and Foundations of Algebra program. I've been told I make class a fun and relaxed learning environment.
Teaching Style
I am an expert at removing the "deer in headlights" looks on faces from the first day of class. I have a concise, step by step methodology that helps students learn more efficiently. I like to apply algebra skills to real life calculations (word problems, etc.) I start with the question, "What if there were no calculators, then what?". We start with the basics of operations with decimals and fractions, etc. Knowing the basics promotes confidence.
