Experience Summary
As I have just finished my Master's degree in Education at the University of Vermont, I spent the last school year in Montpelier high school working as a chemistry intern and tutoring students on an as needed basis. I have tutored a few students in math, as my Bachelor's degree has given me a strong background in math and science.
I am currently applying for my education license in Vermont and will be licensed to teach students science in grades 7-12.
Teaching Style
Watching the look on students face as they grasp a concept they are struggling with is what makes teaching and tutoring worthwhile for me. I love the "aha" moment. I have a laid back, but respectful style of tutoring and teaching where I encourage students to think about concepts and how they understand those concepts. While teaching as an intern last semester, I designed lessons where students investigated concepts in small groups and were able to work out their own understandings together. I was able to guide them as they were learning. I also designed my lessons so they were relevant to student's lives. My lesson on the gas laws related to scuba diving and my lesson on specific heat related to general weather patterns.
