Experience Summary
I have been tutoring for many years with different kinds of children. To begin with, I tutored my younger sister starting when she was about seven years old to age twelve or thirteen. In high school, I also volunteered for an after-school program for Hispanic children ages seven-twelve where I helped them with their homework in various subjects. In addition, I spent about four months tutoring a severely autistic child, teaching him different communication skills and helping him to form patterns. I have always been an 'A' student and I excel in math, science, English, foreign languages, and history. I am best with math and science for elementary up to ninth or tenth grade students, yet I can tutor students in history, reading, and English for all ages. I earned my bachelor's degree in communications, so I have learned to master social studies and the English language by writing copious amounts of papers, giving oral presentations, and analyzing a variety of texts.
Teaching Style
I have always enjoyed working with children, especially in a school setting. I am very good at working one-on-one with people and tailoring my communication and teaching style to best fit the student or listener. I am very keen at ascertaining the needs and personalities of many different people and I am very patient and adept at listening. I enjoy seeing a child's eyes light up once he or she has grasped a difficult concept or conquered a tough subject. I believe that education is one of the most influential forces in shaping a child's development and I love to get the opportunity to be a part of that.
