I am currently working with FONA International on a contract basis as a Flavor Technician. I have been working here for over a year and shown great dedication and hard work. While, working here I have gained a lot of experience. As a Technician, I have been compounding and evaluating flavors by tasting them in base for organoleptic analysis. I also, evaluated raw materials as a part of flavor training and performed basic testing such as flashpoints, temperature using the RTD meter and specific gravity. Nonetheless, I have compounded various beverages for Beverage application group and gained numerous knowledge and skills. In Beverage application lab, I helped develop and process numerous beverages using lab and pilot plant equipment such as homogenizer, UHT, Carbonator, ect. Fona allowed me to gain experience in both flavor creation and flavor development labs making me a well rounded Flavor Technician.
Prior to that, I was working as a Research Specialist for five years. My research focused on analysis of the expression of a proneural gene called achaete. My project was to identify an enhancer that directs expression of achaete in the precursors of a specific group of neurons in the Drosophila adult. To do that I cloned the potential regulator sequences using standard molecular methods in Drosophila reporter vectors. I had also been working to generate a transgenic animal carrying these reporters by microinjection technique. Later, I was working on mapping its gene.
In addition, I assisted Grad students. Also, in the absence of Lab Tech I processed and ordered Lab equipments and materials and changed fly stocks.
