Experience Summary
I taught English as a second Language to first year undergraduates at University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. In addition, I did a summer internship at the Minneapolis school district as a student teacher, teaching English as a second language. I also did private tutoring, teaching English grammar and English Literature to middle school children in Sri Lanka. My career took me to the corporate world and I worked as a Financial auditor in one of the largest banks in the U.S.A.
Teaching Style
In the past, I have made significant impacts on children as well as adults. For example I taught a group of Buddhist monks who had never learnt English previously, and who were rejected by other teachers. I began with teaching the monks the alphabet. By the end of the year, these monks exceeded the expectations set out for them. Another example is when two parents who never spoke English, wanted me to tutor their daughter in English. I went above and beyond my call and taught the child not only English grammar but introduced the child to English Literature. Years later, when I met the mother of the child, she profusely thanked me for teaching her daughter English Literature. The child had done very well, and had studied English Literature at school, and had gone on to attaining a B.A in English Literature. I know that I am a good teacher, and it makes me happy to see the difference that I am able to make in someone's life by teaching.
