About Me

Experience Summary

I have always enjoyed studying science, especially Biology. I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2001. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored many colleagues in various subjects. I also precepted an upper division Plant Genetics course during my junior year. I assisted the Teaching Assistant with experimental set-ups and held office hours so I could meet with students to go over course material in preparation for exams. I obtained my PhD in Pharmacology and Cancer Biology in 2008. During my graduate studies, I mentored four graduate students and two undergraduates during their tenure in our laboratory. During my postdoctoral fellowship, I mentored a community college biotechnology student. She had decided to pursue her BS in Molecular and Celllular Biology at the University of Arizona. I would like to continue tutoring students as I enjoy the interaction with young students that are still deciding on what career path to follow.

Teaching Style

I enjoy teaching Science, so I have begun to investigate my options to teach Science in my community, which is why I applied for this position. Scientific educaton is critical as it is important to train the young scientists of the future. By adequately teaching young scientists and inspiring them to follow scientific careers, we are improving the field of Science as a whole. I have been very patient when teaching new researchers, and I promote them to frequently ask questions. I also routinely ask them questions to promote the applicaton of what they learn in the research lab environment to real life situations. I feel that this is critical, as they begin to understand the importance of what they are learning and pay more attention. Irrespective of their career paths, they will be able to apply what I have taught them in their everyday lives. I think this is the most important part of being an educator.
