Experience Summary
Matt, Instructor of Spanish/English, earned his B.A. in Spanish/Sociology from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in 1995. Upon graduation, Matt decided to begin his teaching career as a Spanish Instructor at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA, a school that during his lengthy tenure was ranked as one of America's Outstanding High Schools by the U.S. News and World Report. When Matt decided that it was time to commit to a career in education with a particular concentration in English and Spanish instruction, he enrolled in Middlebury College's Master of Arts in Spanish program, and graduated from there in 2005. Finally, during the summer of 2007, Matt relocated to Philadelphia to accept a position as a Spanish instructor at a prestigious Preparatory School in the city. While teaching full-time, he also teaches English part-time to international adult students who are employed by a labor union in the city, and is working toward a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership at St. Joseph's University, from where he will graduate in 2011.
Teaching Style
Year after year, I have heard from colleagues, supervisors, and current and former students that my teaching style is one that is full of energy and life, and which combines high expectations with guidance and support to help my students succeed. These qualities, I believe, are fundamental to providing motivation for the learners in my classroom, and in providing them the ability to see for themselves that they are in fact capable of great achievement, whether in their study of Spanish, in English, or in anything they commit to.
