Experience Summary
I knew I loved teaching since I was a young child. I actively started tutoring different age groups in 2004. I have worked with different kids from K-8th.
I will be receiving my B.S. in Family and Human Development in May, 2009. I am already in the MEd program and started taking graduate classes in Spring, 2009. I will be completing 10 credit hours of gradute courses in May, 2009 and I will be receiving my MEd in Elementary Education in Summer 2010.
In the past 4 years, I have tutored language arts, reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Since I will be a teacher in the near future, I am not hesitant to teach all subjects that are taught in elementary and middle schools.
Teaching Style
I don't believe in paper and pencil instruction only. I use various manipulative and lots of hands on acitivities. That is how I will teach in my class too. I absolutely don't believe that manipulative are for fun only and paper and pencil is the only way to teach a lesson plan. I have created many different lesson plans in the past.
I use different manipulative when I teach math such addition, subtraction, fraction, decimal and so on. I use pattern blocks, base ten blocks money etc.
If I am teaching writing then I like to use lots of examples and help the child think instead of thinking for the child. I help them think by asking questions such as how, when, why etc.
We will always have at least 1 kid struggling with different subjects. I always try to find what the child is interested in the most and then incorporate that in every lesson plan. For example, I have worked with one kid that loved dinosaur. I always had dinosaurs in all the lesson plans, activities, and the books that he read had animals.
I think every child is unique and can improve with proper help.
