Experience Summary
Presently, I teach second and third grade self-contained special education at Evergreen Avenue Elementary School in Woodbury, New Jersey. Prior to teaching elementary school, I spent six years working in a variety of roles at Holicong Middle School in Central Bucks School District, Pennsylvania. Although I taught some reading and technology courses, I was primarily hired to teach remedial mathematics to prepare students for the Pennsylvania State Assessment. From basic math to pre-algebra, I created interactive lessons that appropriately challenged my students and reinforced basic concepts. During my last year at Holicong, I was the Reading specialist. I successfully implemented a reading workshop, and fostered a genuine love of reading in my classroom. I believe my experience teaching so many different courses is my greatest asset.
Teaching Style
My goal as a teacher is to effectively engage my students, and help them become life long learners. I believe this goal can be achieved by getting to know my students both personally and academically, and tailoring instruction to meet their needs. I try to help students make connections to the real world, so they more fully understand the importance of learning new material. I also like to integrate technology because it allows me to individualize for each student appropriately. When a student feels safe in the classroom, he/she wants to learn, and things that may have been a struggle at one point, will become easier for him/her.
