Experience Summary
Thanks to a fortunate background, I have always been pushed and motivated towards educational excellence. As a result of this, I have always searched for ways to give back to the community to which I belong. The words, "To whom much is given, much is expected" continually ring in my ears. I have received a BS in Biology and as a result I have a strong background in Chemistry, Calculus and Statistics. I have also pursued a minor in Spanish and as a result I have both studied abroad and achieved fluency in the language. During two years of college I was a Teacher's Assistant, providing me with a strong one-on-one teaching background. As a T.A., I also gained experience teaching classes.
In addition to a strong education and background in teaching, I have also conducted research in my field which adds both practicality and application to the education I have received.
Teaching Style
One of the most rewarding aspects about guiding students is finding the way they channel their thoughts and using it to their advantage. As a result of being ADHD, I am sympathetic to the struggles many students have to concentrate and as a result I am a tenacious but patient teacher, always determined to make the lesson fun and interesting as well as educational. I choose to live by example, just as my favorite teachers and professors did with me. I give children respect, boost their confidence and make them love what they are doing. Even though I have found my approach to be successful, I am always looking for new ways to engage the mind of my student.
As a tutor, I provide goals for the children. I find that once the students have goals, they are much more excited about reaching them, and do reach them with my help.
Learning is fun and exciting, just as it should be!
