Experience Summary
Immediately after graduating with both my BA and MA from the University of Chicago, I started teaching English at the high school level. For the past six years, I have devoted myself to becoming an increasingly skilled teacher. I have taken additional non-credit courses in English grammar just to ensure that I could offer my students the best instruction possible. I have tutored students in English, Reading, SAT and ACT prep over the last few years, and I thoroughly enjoy having this one-on-one time with them. Reading and writing are passions of mine, and I hope to continue helping students improve upon these essential skills for college and beyond.
Teaching Style
I have a good report with teenagers, and I find that that is what allows me to reach out to students and help them succeed. As a teacher and tutor, I try to explain concepts in several different ways so that my students can find the best way to remember or understand what they are studying. By getting to know a particular student, I also get to know their learning style. I believe in involving the student as much as possible in the tutoring process, instead of merely talking at him or her. When they are asked many questions and expected to converse with me during a session, students are much more likely to take something away from it.
