Experience Summary
I have been a teacher or tutor for over fifteen years. I have taught all grades, K - 12, as well as adults. The majority of my experience has been with students with disabilities, as well as students learning English as a Second Language. My work with adult and high school students has been primarily in English Language Arts, Reading and Writing strategies, and study skills. I have extensive training in teaching English using a variety of strategies including honemic awareness, SDAIE strategies, and whole-language as well. I feel comfortable tutoring English, Social Sciences, Physical science, Biology and life Science at all levels. In mathematics, I prefer tutoring only up through eighth grade.
Teaching Style
I am a hands on teacher/tutor. I believe in active learning and student participation. I believe all children can learn, and that we all have different learning styles. I enjoy tapping into a specific child's learning style, and teaching him/her strategies to support that learning style. I am flexible and patient, and my years of experience give me the ability to understand each individual student's needs, and align my tutoring to accommodate those needs.
