Experience Summary
As a retired Osteopath I realize the value of education and the problems that we all have in learning,. I have a B.A. in Chemistry and recall some of the problems I had learning some of the principles of the discipline and I would hope that I could help someone understand the problems in learning the subject. It can be difficult. I am a patient person and I have taught medical students when I lived in Ohio from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine as a clinical professor. I hope I can make learning Chemistry fun and not a bore and difficult like some of my teachers did.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is one of non-confrontational teaching. I have had professors who did that, and it only serves to put the student on edge and not lend itself to learning. I prefer to find out what the pupil is having trouble with and then see if I can find an interest in the concept for the student to make it relevant and help him retain the concepts involved. I like to interject humor and kidding and self deprecating comments to let the person know that he/she is not the only one having problems so the student doesn't feel devastated and hopeless. I like to reinforce the positive learning curve and support positive strides in learning and progress.
