Experience Summary
Through out my undergraduate career I have held various teaching positions. However the most challenging and rewarding was being a teachers assistant for a college level molecular biology course where I was responsible for holding sections and office hours. I also volunteered last summer as a science teacher in Nairobi, Kenya where I taught grades K-12. During my first two years of college I worked Sep-June as a teacher’s assistant at Pala Rancho Preschool where I was responsible for planning lessons and conducting individual tutoring sessions. In the summers I coached swimming and taught lessons for ages 2-15. I believe it takes more than a single individual to make a difference in the lives of a class of students. Therefore, I have learned the value of being a team player and the importance of communicating with colleagues, parents, and administrators so that I will be able to provide the best education possible for my students. I take great pride in being a teacher and a coach, and feel my strengths and talents are well utilized in this stimulating career.
Teaching Style
I would categorize my teaching as passive-aggressive. My students always will have my guidance from my expertise, along with a fundamental and sound period of instructions that I will provide. However I do assert limits on my students when it comes to trial and error. Those limits are genuinely set within the parameters of the lesson plan. The overall goal for me has always been to complete my lesson plan within the predetermined time frame set, but to do so with a collective and fully comprehensive understanding of my class.
