Experience Summary
I am fortunate to have multiple intelligence. Since an early age, I have been motivated to increase my knowledge base and skill levels. My desires have motivated me to earn a double majored BS in agriculture, an applied science, and a MS in biology. I taught laboratory classes while I was a student. I began working as a tutor in 1999. This motivated me to become teacher trained. I am an AVID certified tutor. I have tutored middle school, high school, and college students in biology, chemistry, physics, environmental sciences, title-I math and language arts, prealgebra, HS algebra I & II, college algebra, pre-calculus. In my tutoring I work with study, organization, reading, and vocabulary development.
Teaching Style
I get a thrill from experiencing a student achieving the Ah-ha! moment of learning. I employ multiple modalities of teaching, since most students have multiple modalities of learning. My goal is to facilitate my students to become independent learners. I employ Socratic teaching methods. I don't give answers. That's too easy. I have found that students retain learning when they work through the solution. I offer students skills to ask questions about their world.
