Experience Summary
I come from a family of teachers who believe in excellence in higher education. My BA in Journalism from a liberal arts university and a Certificate in Graphic Design have given me a strong platform of subject proficiency to share with students. After a working in graphic design and marketing, my call to teaching came when I was scoring national scholastic tests. I realized I could make a great difference for students…because I knew what was required for top scores! So for the last year I have been tutoring students to master concepts in math, reading, writing and science. My students who were tutored 22 hours improved their test scores on an average of 62 percent.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is flexible to the student’s needs. Initially, I access at what level the student is currently performing and the best way they absorb information. My lesson plans are often individually tailored to the interests of the student. For instance, If I have a student who hates to read, I find reading material on a subject they do enjoy (such as Professional Wrestling). I enjoy introducing new subject matter, ideas and practical applications to add excitement to a lesson. For instance, in a session on factions, I may use measuring cups and baking tools so the student can have hands on comprehension. I am passionate about creating my students’ interest, confidence and success in the academic world.
