Experience Summary
I have two degrees from college: A Master's Degree in Communications and a BA in Journalism. I have been teaching now for about eight years (all levels). I love working with children and adults alike. Teaching college was very rewarding. However,for the past four years I have been a long-term substitute working a variety of subjects.It has been immensely rewarding to work with kids. I have mainly worked at elementary schools. Yet, I have a lot of exposure in working with students at the secondary level as well. I have extensive reading, writing, and grammatical skills through my degrees. In addition, I am a superb communicator both verbal and written due to, in great part, my vast association working with all ages and learning types. While I have tutored children in all areas, I prefer English, reading and writing -- as those are my main fortes.
Teaching Style
As briefly stated above, I love teaching! I love working with children of all ages. I have been quite successful as an instructor because I have a fantastic rapport with students. Among my qualities: I am patient, flexible, knowledgable, easy going, and have a great sense of humor -- which really is important. I am a big believer in giving feedback to students. Yet, I always do this in a constructive format. I always try to create a successful learning environment so the student may succeed. My main objective in tutoring is to find out a child's strengths and weaknesses. From there, I can garner an idea on how best to tackle turning the weaknesses into strengths. I always give 110% at everything that I do. Helping a child learn is no different.
