Experience Summary
I've recently tutored math and general science for UpwardBound, a program designed to inspire and give the tools necessary to under-privileged high school students to become first generation college students. Throughout my study of math and physics, I've found that most people that are unable to do these subjects are limited by their own phobias and that if they are simply explained in the right way anyone can feel comfortable with frightening subjects such as math and physics.
Teaching Style
In teaching math and physics I find that most student's heads start to spin when looking at numbers, so I do my best to use analogies to describe a mathematical process, then once a student feels comfortable with the analogy they can apply this analogy to solve problems with numbers. Again stemming from overcoming phobias of math or physics being the most important step in learning, I try to make the complicated and confusing territory of math and physics easily navigable by bringing problems to a tangible ground for students.
