Experience Summary
Since high school I have always been in a postion as a mentor and tutor. One of my first experiences was as a camp counselor for inner-city youth. Since then my affinity for teaching has grown while serving as a Bible study teacher and private tutor, to the position I now have as Assistant Director of our church's English Ministry. In addition to supervising the teaching staff I am the primary lecturer. I have experience tutoring children in grades 1 - 12 as well as college students in the areas of English and Mathematics. Currently I am finishing up my B.A in Applied Mathematics at U.C. Berkeley.
Teaching Style
I know of few things that compare to the moment a concept or idea clicks in a student's head. Regardless if it registers with a knowing nod or is the result of a difficult grinding process, the feeling for me is the same. I firmly believe that no two children think in exactly the same way, and so often no two children learn in exactly the same way. Differences in persepective, experience, environment, etc. mean paths to discovery may differ for each child. My job as an educator is to find that path through patience, compassion and creativity, all while creating an enjoyable learning environment.
