Experience Summary
I have taught English at the University level for five years and the High School level for six months. I worked as a freelance writer for CBS, Brite Voice and its 600 clients for eight years. I've written for the "Wichita Eagle" newspaper and for the Wichita State University student newspaper, "The Sunflower." For the past five years, I have worked tutoring students in the writing lab at the university. I also prided myself on my ability to work individually with my students outside of class.
Teaching Style
I had never thought myself a teacher until I began my Masters in English. As part of program, graduate students could teach, and in doing so, the university would pay tuition and a minor stipend. From day one I was hooked. For me, connection with students is the thing. I want them to understand, to excel. I look for the right method for each student and point them towards the building blocks of writing, making sure they learn each step before moving on. In that way, success is assured.
