Experience Summary
I have just completed my master's degree combining courses from both biology and anthropology. My thesis concentrated on awareness of nature and conservation education in a rural community of Costa Rica. I have also gained considerable experience as a teaching assistant at SDSU for the last 2 years. This allowed me to create and present lectures for undergraduate students, proctor exams, grade research papers and other assignments and interact with students. I truly enjoy helping people learn and feel that I have excellent skills in teaching and student advising.
Teaching Style
It has been my experience, both as a student and a teacher, that people learn best with positive reinforcement and patience. When assisting students I make it my goal to explain the subject matter step by step and to avoid confusion. I also know that students are more comfortable when they feel you are truly engaged in their learning experience and concerned about their success. It is vital that educators help students utilize their education to the fullest, even beyond the classroom. Education can be the basic foundation of self-confidence and it takes passionate educators to make this happen. I reflect often on those who helped me during my academics and who taught with genuine interest in their students. I strive to be one of those teachers.
