Experience Summary
Although I have a BS in Elementary Education, my experience ranges from preschool to high school. I have over two years’ experience teaching preschoolers basic reading and math skills. I have seven years’ experience teaching elementary school, where I have taught many children the fundamentals of reading, writing, and arithmetic. While teaching, I tutored several students that needed help with reading, each session ending with tremendous results. In my three years of teaching middle school and high school, I taught math and history. In addition, I taught my students how to write research papers. Not only have I taught academic classes, but I have also taught sign language to all age groups. Currently I am home schooling my children along with tutoring students and counseling parents in regards to their children’s education.
Teaching Style
From teaching preschoolers how to read to teaching high school students how to survive (and enjoy!) Algebra, I find it rewarding to discover how individual students learn and then help them to succeed in their efforts. I love kids and am able to relate to different age levels and needs. I understand that every child learns differently and has unique strengths and weaknesses. My goal is to be able to teach children fundamental concepts that translate into solving specific problems. For example, I teach phonics as a base for reading so that students are able to use the concepts they have learned to sound out new words. In math courses, I not only aid in completing particular equations, but I also make sure the student understands the principles and applies them in other situations. I desire to partner with parents in helping their child achieve academic excellence.
