Experience Summary
From the moment I began French in high school, it became a passion for me. I took 4 years of courses in 3 years' time, and tested into 4th semester level (highest possible) French upon entering college. I knew all along I wanted to be a teacher, thus becoming a French teacher was perfect logic. I earned my BS in Ed, and having attended a liberal arts college, making cross-curriculum oriented lessons was easy with the diverse studies I had done. While attending college, I worked as a peer-tutor in a program designed to help struggling students. During my first teaching job, I tutored students after school, both at school (part of a state-funded program) and as a home-bound teacher. My second teaching job was in France, which involved a great deal of one-on-one teaching/tutoring. At my current job, I often stay after school, offering tutoring help to my students.
Teaching Style
I love teaching students, especially when I get the chance to engage them one-on-one. I find that teaching in a public school, I do not get to do this nearly often enough, which disappoints me, for I feel that many students do not really connect with the learning process until they have individual, personal attention. Many of my students have told me how much they appreciate my high level of patience and how I will take the time to explain over and over again in different ways until they have completely understood. When teaching, I strive to reach all the different intelligences, thus I vary my activities widely. The most important element of the learning process, in my opinion, is helping the students apply what they have learned, and I center my lessons on helping students achieve the applications of the knowledge they accrue in my class.
