Experience Summary
As an honors graduate, I pursued most of my education within my communications degree. I will begin teaching a 15-20 person writing class of 4-6 graders at the YWCA in Boulder this month. This is similar to a youth organization I worked for in high school where I mentored a group of elementary age students and initiated a youth magazine where the participants could publish their own poetry and stories. I have had extensive experience with writing and editing along with much time spent mentoring and teaching students to perfect their own writing.
Teaching Style
Being so enthusiastic and young at heart, I cannot help but relate to children. I love to teach writing because each individual has his/her own style, and it is fascinating to see that blossom. Aside from the joys of writing, I do strongly believe in the importance of a solid foundation for correct grammar and sentence structure. By incorporating fun, hands-on learning, it becomes more efficient for a child to pick up various learning techniques. Whether it be through rhyme, repetition, reading, or even speaking, there are several way to help children learn how to correctly and effectively express themselves through words.
