Experience Summary
I come from a family of teachers, including my parents who are college professors and instilled in me from an early age the value of education. I went on to study languages and history, obtaining a B.S. in Spanish and a Master's in Teaching with a double concentration in Spanish and ESL (English as a Second Language). I taught ESL for 8 years at the middle school level, 1 year of high school Spanish, and also ran an adult ESL program here in Minneapolis for a year and a half. In addition, I have taught and/or turored English overseas in Spain and Ecuador. I have also assisted many students over the years with homework, projects, presentations, etc. in a variety of settings (study hall, "homework help", summer camp, summer school, tutoring sessions). I have worked with all ages and enjoy the variety, challenge, and reward that teaching and tutoring provide.
Teaching Style
I enjoy helping students reach their full potential and facilitating the learning process. Every student has different needs and different learning styles, but I have seen first hand how one-on-one help can truly make a difference. Some students make take longer to grasp a concept or complete work but given enough time, resources, and effort, they too can succeed. I strive to develop a good rapport with students so that they feel comfortable in the learning environment and confident to try their best without fear of making mistakes. I am very patient, understanding, and positive.
