Experience Summary
As a talented pre-med and psychology student, I have a firm grasp of the sciences. I started tutoring in my second year attending Mount Holyoke College. I was the Head Teachers Assistant for the Math Department. On a weekly basis I tutored college students in calculus I and II. I coordinated schedules for the tutors in the department. As a student driven to excel, I completed two theses as a senior. My major thesis was in neuroscience, whereas my minor's thesis was in genetics. These writing skills paid off when I helped published a peer reviewed article as a Clinical Research Associate in the Anesthesia Research Division of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. In spring 2007, I completed post graduate coursework in General and Organic Chemistry at Emory University with A's in lieu of future studies.
Teaching Style
With enthusiasm and a caring attitude I help students to engage in learning. I hope to see students' sense of confindece grow by encouraging them to achieve small goals, practice, and tackle progressively larger challenges. By providing models for good note-taking skills, organization of concepts, and tools to solve word problems, I help students learn skills that will help them in any circumstance. As a tutor, I can give individual attention as a student solves a problem. It helps a student to trust their style, ask a question in the moment, and learn to see new ways of problem solving. Some students learn by structure and repetition. Some students prefer discussing relevance to everyday life. I listen to the student and work with their learning style be it visual, auditory, or kinestetic. With an appropriate balance of encouragement and challenge, I help students to reach excellence.
