Experience Summary
Throughout my experience as a teacher, I learned that all students are able to learn. It has been a tremendous experience to learn that I can contribute something useful and meaningful to my learners. I know that when I started teaching and when I was enrolled in the UH teacher education program, I knew that teaching was a passion. Nothing is more rewarding then to see someone accomplish and reach their destiny as planned. In addition to working with students, I also gained a lot of useful strategies working with student teachers. I learned that being a mentor meant more than just being teachers in the room. For instance, in everything that is done in the classroom, students shall be able to see that we teachers are modeling effective skills in working cooperatively with each other.
Teaching Style
My main focus in teaching is to teach in a constructivist approach. I always believe that students are there in the room to learn on their own. Teachers are to facilitate and guide them through. The best guideline in leading students is to provide effective questioning skills. Students are to be more independent learners and should be trained and taught to use their skills in real life situations. I also believe that students learn more effectively when I teach accordingly to what they know and to grasp that prior knowledge from them. It is more easier to seek and reach out into their minds when lessons are targeted towards their experiences and concepts that they already learn. To take them to a new level is to carry the lesson or concept into something new and interesting so they can be able to connect what they already learned and something new that are about to learn or will learn.
