Experience Summary
I recently graduated from Connecticut College with a BA in Mathematics, with minors in French and Philosophy. I received a departmental math prize each year of my college career, and served as a math tutor, as well as proofread French papers for other students. At the same time, I worked in the Career Enhancing Life Skills office, was the Master Electrician for Theater Services, and participated in club soccer, orchestra, and other campus activities. I particularly enjoyed my role as a dorm leader: I was a Governor during my sophomore and junior years, and promoted student involvement in dorm activities. I was also a Housefellow (a paraprofessional Residence Advisor) my senior year, ensuring the physical and mental health of all students in the dorm, in coordination with other departments on campus.
Teaching Style
One of the most interesting things about math, in my opinion, is how everyone can have different understandings of fundamentally similar concepts. One method may work for Student A but not Student B, so I aspire to teach methods that will reach both students. I engage and interact with my students a lot in order to properly gauge how my students are progressing and what I can do to further help them.
Also, I like using 'real world' examples to reinforce a concept and show its practicality in everyday life, but I do not like to introduce concepts through such examples, because often students are not able to generalize enough from the examples to truly understand the concept. My goal as a teacher is to make sure that my students have received a full understanding of and confidence in the material.
