Experience Summary
My teaching career has been devoted to helping individual students achieve their potential. I have taught struggling students at all grade levels. As a reading teacher, I diagnosed each student’s strengths and weaknesses. I then tailored instruction to meet each student’s needs. I have also been a Learning Disabilities teacher in a small community. This gave me the experience of teaching a wide variety of subjects to students in elementary through high school. My teaching experience includes teaching English to students who came to school speaking another language. I have many years of tutoring experience which includes teaching young children, teenagers, and adults in the areas of reading, math, and English as a second language.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is to discover what each student needs to learn in order to be successful. I teach in a way that is most effective with that student. I have found that students can make rapid progress when they have an opportunity to fill in the gaps of their skills and knowledge. Over the years, I have learned many strategies to help students acquire the skills they need. I help students to build on their strengths as they overcome their academic weaknesses. I have also learned that students learn more quickly when the lesson is interesting to them, so I choose reading material for a lesson with that in mind. I find that students truly enjoy their lessons, because they gain confidence and realize that they are able to be successful.
