Experience Summary
I graduated from Tufts University where I earned a BA degree in both French and International Relations. I spent the four months immediately following my graduation working in Talloires, France, where I helped run an academic program for high school and college students from around the world. In addition to planning trips and programs, our institution offered an ESL program teaching English to French high school students. Aside from working in Talloires, I served as a Peer Academic Advisor for new students at Tufts and was selected to train new peer leaders. I mentored incoming students during all four years of my undergraduate experience. I volunteered at a local elementary school tutoring math. Also, I spent three consecutive summers teaching swimming lessons to campers which is what originally drew me to the world of tutoring and teaching.
Teaching Style
Learning should be fun and engaging. My goal is to be patient and inviting, so the learner feels comfortable around me from the start. Positive feedback helps increase a student's self esteem. I understand that every child is an individual so there is not one universal teaching formula. However, we can all learn by example or something we can relate to. I try to make a connection for the student so that the topic of study is relevant, applicable, and interesting.
