Experience Summary
I have completed a dual major at Ball State University resulting in certification in Elementary and Special Education. While there, I tutored math for fellow undergrads. After graduation, I taught for one year in Indianapolis, and then moved to Dallas, TX where I continued teaching Special Education. I have recently returned to Indianapolis, and look to further my career in building the success of children.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is based on principles of respect, creativity, and growth. I start by establishing a personal connection to the student. Without their buy-in, anything you try to teach will be lost. Once I understand what motivates the student and what they feel successful at, I can begin to design a program that will meet their needs and allow them to feel success. I love hands-on activities and discovery learning. I would much rather provide the opportunity for a child to learn then to dictate what that learning looks like. Of course there are times when direct instruction is the best option, and with those times I try to include as much visual stimulation as possible that can potentially be used in later lessons as a reminder of what was taught.
