Experience Summary
I am a certified K-12 Exceptional Education Teacher in Broward County. I moved to South Florida after finishing a degree at Texas A&M University. A Special Education degree from Texas A&M requires hundreds of "intern" hours, or on site experience. My intern sites are as follows: 7th - 8th grade Math, Pre-K all subjects, K-4 all subjects, 9-12 Math, Reading, English, Physics, Biology, Chemistry. In addition to interning while at Texas A&M, I also offered private tutoring to students of various ages in many different subject areas.
Now that I am in a classroom, I teach children with Special Needs grades K-5. I focus on academics from all subject areas as well as social/life skills. I have administered the Florida Alternative Assessment two times, attended training about the exam, and helped determine "cut-points" with a state-wide committee. I know techniques that can help improve a child's score on this new exam.
Teaching Style
While tutoring, it is important to make sure students are learning the material. Conducting frequent assessments that show student progress helps me make sure my techniques are effective for the individual student. If progress is not shown, then I change my teaching style to better meet the student’s needs. I like to make games specific to the student’s learning needs so that the tutoring experience can be interactive, fun, and effective. I have strong behavior management skills, which ensure more time is spent learning instead of dealing with inappropriate behavior. Experiencing success with a student who is struggling most rewarding.
