Experience Summary
I love teaching chemistry; I didn't even pursue research after college graduation. I learned so much my first year teaching at a private school in Honolulu. After that, I taught all levels of chemistry at an urban school outside Baltimore. I reluctantly stopped teaching when my oldest child was born and have been working as a tutor since. I have tutored all levels of chemistry (including AP) and Algebra I and II and Geometry. I have worked with students from all kinds of backgrounds and income levels.
Teaching Style
My goal in teaching chemistry and algebra is to make it accessible, particularly to those who struggle in those subjects. I find chemistry to be fun and attempt to pass on that love to my students. Algebra makes so much sense to me mathematically and I enjoy making it make sense to students. I work hard to explain difficult concepts in terms most people can understand and I can tell when a student "gets it" and when they are just saying so. I may not be able to instill a love of math and science, but I attempt to alleviate the fear most students have of those subjects.
