Experience Summary
I'm a graduate with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, but I spent a significant portion of time earning the equivalent of a minor in Japanese. I took many courses in religious studies and philosophy, enforcing my writing and critical thinking skills. I started tutoring when I was in high school and continued through college in both paid and volunteer positions. I've tutored in basic mathematics, geometry, algebra, trigonometry, statistics, 3D mechanical drawing, civil engineering graphics, chemistry, conversational English and ACT test preparation.
Teaching Style
I've aided ESL students, native Japanese students, K-12 students, as well as college students. Even when I tutor groups, I mold my questions and instructions to each student to try and tailor instruction to his or her personal learning style. I offer a broad background of teaching experience and a strong understanding of science and mathematics. I try to maintain a fun environment, encouraging student participation while ensuring that the main concepts our understood. As a tutor I try to complement the instructions of the teacher by offering a broader understanding of the topic or new methods to approach the same answers. Tutoring and helping others has always been a big part of who I am, and recently I have not been able to fulfil that part of my life.
