Experience Summary
I taught 5th grade for 3 years, right out of college, then began substitute-teaching k-12 and have been doing that for the past 5 years. In addition to this, I have been a nanny to various aged children and helped them with their schoolwork and studies. I believe my experiences with children, ranging in age from infants through 12th grade, have developed my ability to be flexible and to adapt to many different learning environments and abilities. I have substitute taught English, Math, Science, History, Physical Education, Home Economics, Business, and many other subjects. I also taught my own classroom of 5th graders all basic core subjects appropriate to that age. I believe I have many tutoring capabilities based on my wide range of experience with children in and out of the classroom.
Teaching Style
As educators, teachers and tutors play a vital role in the lives of children. I consider this to be a great responsibility and a great reward. We are responsible to see that every child in our reach feels safe, valued, and capable. We receive great reward in watching the light of learning beam in a student's eyes, possibly for the first time. I will encourage and guide all my students to reach their maximum potential. I hope to provide students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the challenges of their future. I believe this brief quote puts everything we do as tutors, teachers, and educators into perspective: "In 100 years from now, it will not matter what type of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, or how much money I had in the bank...but that I was important in the life of a child."
