Experience Summary
As the Title I Math Specialist at Peyton Elementary for three years, I had the opportunity to work with struggling learners as well as high achieving students in a small classroom setting. This on-the-job experience combined with numerous professional development credits earned in various areas such as differentiated instruction, math/literature connections, and mathematics pedagogy as well as two years of service on Peyton Elementary's "Child Study" team gave me the necessary background to be able to identify individual student needs and tailor lessons to address those needs. Over the past two years, I have been able to apply the above skills in a one-on-one setting through private tutoring of elementary age students in both math and reading.
Teaching Style
I have a caring and mutually respectful relationship with students. I am very creative in my lesson planning, often use hands-on activities, draw from various teaching resources, and differentiate for all levels of learners. I like to bolster the confidence of struggling learners with lots of positive reinforcement and encouragement. I like to illicit higher level thinking from all students.
