Experience Summary
My experience in tutoring is drawn from my work as a substitute teacher and tutor, and from my professional and academic experience as well. I was a subsitute teacher for K-8 for four years. I taught a variety of subjects in both elementary and middle school including math, science, grammar, literature, social studies, general music, arts, and physical education. I also served for a year as a tutor with a church in the afterschool academy teaching Spanish and Algebra. My computer and science expertise comes from my military background as a computer network analyst. I taught several classes on radio and satellite communications, and computer operating systems. With my political science and Spanish concentrations associated with my BA, I can also tutor in social science, English (grammar and composition) and Spanish.
Teaching Style
I am a motivating, personable tutor that connects well with students of all ages. I have lots of energy, but I am also mature, practical, process-oriented, and will provide the structure, discipline, and encouragement that kids need to learn. I have had a lot of great experiences that I can use to enrich the learning process with my students. I have a bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in Spanish, and a Masters in Education with a concentration in K-12 counseling. I am currently enrolled as a full-time seminary student with ambitions to be a military chaplain. I think my diverse life experiences are what set me apart. I served as an active duty intelligence officer in the Air Force, and have traveled all over the world from Beijing to Barcelona. I enjoy marathon running, scrapbooking, and working with my youth group at church. With my experiences, I can bring academic lessons to life.
