Experience Summary
Currently, I’m a stay at home mom looking to get back into teaching after a 4-year absence of working with children. I became a certified teacher at Dartmouth and upon moving to Colorado, I used that degree as substitute teacher and high school diving coach. I focused on learning theories and memory while obtaining my masters degree. I did some elementary age tutoring after grad school but worked outside the field an associate engineer at Ball Aerospace. Because I missed working with children, I resumed my coaching. I have a well-rounded background of working with elementary students in all areas and because of my graduate work, I have a lot of knowledge about how to approach individual challenges with each student.
Teaching Style
I think that understanding a child’s learning style is a key component to helping that child be successful academically. Once a learning style is learned, I can develop a teaching strategy that will best work in the child’s best interest. Additionally, it’s important for the child and parents to know how best to adjust lessons for optimal learning and success. As children become more successful, learning will become a positive experience for them. I believe that teaching a child to love learning is very important to their academic success. With older children, I prefer to facilitate their learning experience, guiding them through their lessons while they retain ownership of the process.
