Experience Summary
My original plan was to major in Education, but decided to double major in school, then obtain my teaching certificate after graduation. Now, armed with two degrees and a desire to enter the academic world once again -this time as the teacher - I am currently in the middle of getting my certificate for subbing, as well as seeking employment/ my certificate through Teach for America. I have gained experience that has helped me prepare to be a fantastic tutor: I took my PRAXIS exam and scored 90% on all three subject matters, I have tutored special needs students at the high school level, I have tutored ESL, and have been both a day camp and wildnerness guide, leading and teaching people of all ages and backgrounds. I love helping people reach their full potential. My goal is to see the proud expression on a student's face that says "I get it!"
Teaching Style
It's true that every student learns at a different pace with a different style. I like to see myself as a cameleon teacher, catering my format to individual needs. My style tends to be laid back so that students are comfortable expressing their likes and dislikes with me, curbing their fear of not understanding something. I love to use metaphors, pictures, examples and stories to illustrate the subject in a new and perhaps clearer way. I don't teach and run - I make sure the student understands before moving on to the next problem. I have them work through something in front of me so I can make sure they know what they're doing. And, finally - importantly - I keep a healthy, balanced sense of humor.
