Experience Summary
Last spring I graduated from the University of Florida Romance Languages and Literatures Department with a BA in French. Notably, I was one of only two students to graduate with honors. Not only am I a qualified tutor as a result of my strong academic capabilities and background due to writing extensive research papers in both French and English, but I also have a wide variety of experiences. I have tutored and/or taught students from nearly every age group and background including: elementary, middle, high school and college students to sixty years old adults. Since my freshman year of college, I have been teaching and tutoring a wide range of subjects including elementary to college level French, English and ESL, basic mathematics, test-taking and study skills. In addition, I worked at the University of Florida Career Resource Center helping students draft and revise resumes, cover letters and personal statements.
Teaching Style
Teaching and tutoring have been the most fulfilling and rewarding jobs I have had. I believe in the communicative approach to learning in which the tutor guides the student to the answer in lieu of simply giving it. From my experience, a little bit of well-constructed guidance goes a long along way in a student's success. I am also goal-oriented, patient and sensitive to the students' feelings, which creates a comfortable environment for them to excel in. I want the students to feel free to learn and make mistakes and I believe this is when most truly thrive. My favorite part of tutoring is seeing the small successes from week to week grow into semesters of strong grades as well as witnessing the changes in the students' attitude and motivation to succeed.
