Experience Summary
I have always had an interest in helping others learn new material. I have earned a BS and MS in Physics, and in the process of doing this I also did extensive coursework in Mathematics. My education has given me a thorough understanding of these two subjects. At Georgia Tech, I worked as a teaching assistant in Mathematics, teaching recitation sections and holding office hours in which students were given individual attention. Part of my duties as a TA were to work in the school's Math Lab, providing tutoring to students in Mathematics. Prior to becoming a TA, I worked as a Physics tutor on campus. At Michigan State, I was primarily involved in research activities in the field of Nuclear Physics, and a large portion of this job involved teaching others about the technical details of and the physical principles behind the work being done. This work further developed my abilities as a teacher and tutor.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is largely based around feedback received from students. I like to keep the students actively involved in the learning process by asking questions which serve to point them in the right direction. I try to put myself into the head of the student and understand the difficulties that he/she is facing in learning the material; I can then modify my approach based on what I think will be the most effective way to help the student overcome his/her difficulties in learning. I am very patient with students, and I strive to ensure that they have a deep and complete understanding of the material being taught.
