Experience Summary
I have tutored consistently from Janaury 2001 through the school year ending in June 2006. I began tutoring on a volunteer basis in as a Literacy Trainer for reading-challenged adults. Thereafter, I tutored high school students preparing to take the SAT, grammar school students struggling with math and reading and most recently as part of the "No Child Left Behind Act." My strength is math, however I have boosted my grammar skills to align with the the needs of my students.
Teaching Style
There is nothing quite like the feeling of observing a breakthrough on the part of a young person as they overcome obstacles to learning. My style is gentle and always positive. I keep to a quick pace, never lingering too long in one area. I am well organized and take notes during each session. I do a lot of follow-up and review during each session to reinforce prior study. I am bottom-line oriented. The only measure that is important is the student's growth.
