Experience Summary
I am originally from Eritrea, Africa. I understand the role of good education in fulfilling a person's dream and improving one's life. I started tutoring when I was in high school. I tutored my peers in science and math; and I also tutored elementary and middle school kids helping them with their English and Math classes. During my college years, I tutored high school students helping them prepare for their University Entrance Exam. At the University of New Mexico, I tutored undergraduate students in geology and hydrology courses.
Teaching Style
I like breaking down complex problems into simple concepts. I believe that instead of telling students to memorize facts and concepts, it is better to give them practical applications of the subject matter. In my opinion, this gives them flexibility and complete understanding. It also helps them to further analyze the concepts and discover new things along the way. I encourage students to have plenty of hands-on exercises so they apply what they learn, and in the long-run, develop a confidence to rely on their problem solving skills.
