Experience Summary
I am very proficient in mathematics and have tutored Math at all education levels and for most standardized exams (from K-12th grade math, Math A & B regents, to SAT Math). I have provided in-home tutoring services for both the Math A & B Regents. Moreover, I have been a certified tutor for Sylvan Learning Centers for the past three years and have developed great communication skills and relationship building tactics. I feel that my ability to explain difficult concepts in easy to understand terms and enthusiasm for the material helps and encourages all of my students. References are available from a Sylvan Director of Education and parent of a student I tutored in-home.
Teaching Style
I truly enjoy helping students of all ages build confidence in their academic ability. I employ a tactile style of teaching that begins as guided practice and ultimately becomes independent practice. I work with the students to illustrate abstract concepts in tangible, concrete examples that draw out the methodology and skills required to master a concept. I am a strong believer in the repetitive nature of mathematics; if a skill or concept is mastered, then the solutions to exam or practice questions will all stem one way or another from the core concept. Continual reinforcement is another paradigm for successful instruction. Core concepts are reiterated throughout each lesson. After the initial guided practice, it is important that help is given only after they have fully attempted to solve it on their own. Completing the problem independently builds self-esteem and pride in their academic capabilities, and staves off dependence on assisted instruction.
