Experience Summary
During my time at the University of Minnesota, I have been employed at several different tutoring organizations. First I worked with K through 6th grade age children at Village Parks. While there my focus was to educate students in different cultures and languages, through games and physical activities. From 2001 to 2002, I worked for with Minneapolis Parks and Public schools to tutor high school age to adult students in basic scholastics abilities up to more challenging subjects. My most recent position was with Upward Bound, where I worked with high school students throughout the St. Paul Public School system. During my time there I was responsible for tutoring students in all subject matters up to post secondary classes. In addition, I thought college prep classes. Through these past experiences and my knowledge of mathematics, I feel I will make students succeed.
Teaching Style
My tutoring style usually depend on the person I am tutoring, however the following is my basic beliefs, which guide my teaching methods. I believe that you can make any subject matter easy by focusing on the basics and relating the subject matter to things the student can identify with. This allows the student to not become overwhelmed and more acceptable to the subject matter. In addition, I believe that the students should be challenged and encouraged to reiterate what you teach them. This allows the tutor to become more aware of the students needs and helps the tutor refine their methods.
