Experience Summary
In college I decided to major in Biology and minor in Psychology. This was ideal because the exposure to both of these disciplines would be critical to becoming a well-rounded individual. To further demonstrate my academic ability, this year I gained admissions to Georgetown University School of Medicine. As a medical student and a future physician I know that my leadership, academic, and interpersonal skills are key assets in educating children.
Last year, I was a permanent substitute teacher at Miami Ferguson High School where I was able to interact with students of all grades. I substituted many different subjects, such as Math and English where I had to adapt to the many roles of a teacher. In January of 2007, they gave me the chance to work with the children affected with autism. This opportunity allowed me to learn about the mental challenges that these children go through on a day to day basis. By individually working with them, I had the opportunity to have a positive affect on their social and behavior competence. Moreover, we improved their social standard of living by having them constantly engage the outside world. In addition, I have extensive teaching experience tutoring children in the subjects of Math and Science.
Teaching Style
Ever since I had my first experience working with children, I was able to quickly recognize the qualities and traits that make up a well-rounded teacher. This is someone who has a full understanding of the teacher-student relationship with all of its intricacies. Furthermore, someone who has the competency to not only educate, but who knows how to integrate the psychological and emotional aspects that are inherent in the practice of education. I can state with confidence that I have obtain these qualities with my experiences. I am knowledgeable, caring and understanding towards the students’ needs. My goal is to provide a conducive environment of learning, and I know I can deliver the proper teachings with compassion and patience.
