Experience Summary
Throughout high school and college, I have tutored various ages in a wide array of subjects. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Child Development. During college, I volunteered as an after school mentor/tutor for children ages 6-10. I provided them with help on their homework and created different educational activities for the children to do. These activities were designed to make learning fun and exciting and it helped the children to grasp many different concepts, especially with math and spelling. In college, I tutored my peers in different subjects including mathematics and psychology.
Teaching Style
After college, I taught preschool for a year. I have always enjoyed working with children but this was my first opportunity to teach. I find that children learn better with a hands-on approach. I tried to make sure that everything I taught the children in my class was taught in an interactive, hands-on way. I allowed the children to work together and even teach each other at times. I feel it is most important to provide children with an environment that they feel comfortable and are able to reach their full potential. I also was able to go overseas and teach, which allowed me to use my teaching style in an environment that was new. I found that allowing children to be creative, and providing them with a creative learning environment, is universal in the child's success.
