Experience Summary
I am going to graduate in May from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, a minor in Spanish and a completed pre-medical track. This has given me a strong educational background, specifically a vast arsenal of knowledge both in the sciences and mathematics. In the fall of 2006, I became a volunteer teacher for a non-profit organization called Junior Achievement. This organization aims to teach students using a hands-on approach about economics and how it relates to their lives. I was also a participant in a research program entitled "Guided Reading Project" in conjunction with Florida International University during the summer of 2005, where I was responsible for teaching a class of three and four year olds at a local day care. Throughout my high school and college career I have also informally tutored family members, friends and acquaintances in numerous subject matters.
Teaching Style
Being pre-med with a strong interest in Pediatrics, I have a desire to work with children. This can be seen from my numerous volunteer activities at locations such as: the Ronald McDonald House, Shands Pediatric Specialty Clinic and Junior Achievement. I am patient and easy going and understand that some students require more time and instruction to learn. In the end, I feel that all students are capable of learning if the teacher is willing to explore different techniques until he/she finds one that works with that student. I also feel that it is important for the student to be able to relate to his/her teacher. In this regard, I am a very well-rounded individual with a varied background and feel like I can relate to most people. Being a teacher is making a connection with a student and truly caring about his/her educational well-being.
